I saw The Dark Knight Friday. Excellent movie. REALLY Excellent movie. I'm having a hard time deciding whether it or Ironman is my choice for superhero movie of the year. Its been interesting watching the new age of superhero movies over the past few years... and very rewarding to see the DC/Marvel rivalry build up in a new medium.
Just extending the theme out, my kids and I are watching the first X-Men movie (2000). When it came out I remember thinking "wow. This is great... it can't get better" now it looks dated. The effects are the only thing, its the world view too. No matter... it's great entertainment.

Summer Tour '08
Last year I made a whirlwind tour through Texas for work... I began in the Hill Country, spent 2 days for one client then drove across to Houston and spent a day there for another client. It was fun. It was exhausting. It was just another week in my life.
This year we had 2 gigs in New Mexico back to back. I spent the past week in Clovis (for the geographically challenged, Clovis in really just West Texas in the Mountain time zone) Next week I'll be in Taos, NM which everyone knows is a great place in the northwestern part of the state to ski. So with the weekend in between I'm spending time with Michelle in Los Alamos.
Ok... so whip out your slide rule and help me figure this out: Monday 7/7/2008 I fly from Dallas Lovefield to Lubbock International, pick up a rental car (more on that one later) and drive 2 hours northwest to arrive in Clovis. I gain an hour because of that whole time zone thingy, and I've risen 4,000 ft in altitude. (I had a great time in Clovis, they were a great client to work with) Yesterday, 7/10/2008, after our closing meeting I get back in the rental car and drive back to Lubbock. A 2 hour trip that lost an hour because of that whole time zone thingy. I get to the airport in plenty of time to check the video equipment and my bag, and have a beer in the bar. I board Southwest flight 1999 (wanted to sing Prince songs) and enjoyed a 1 hour flight (and a jack & coke courtesy of Southwest Rapid Rewards coupons) to Alberquque that arrived at the same time it took off (that time zone thingy again) . Now I'm 5,100 ft higher in elevation than I'm used to. Michelle and I grab some dinner (and a beer) and head up into the hills to Los Alamos... which is 7,320 ft. So between the changes back and forth in time zones, up and down in elevation, and having booze when I was already a little dehydrated I'm absoultly a mess this am!
But I love it here. It's beautiful. The mountains, the weather, everything is a great break in between 2 whirlwind trips. I'm working this AM from a Starbucks that is bustling with a constant flow of locals and tourists... Mom's with kids... older couples... hippies. Another day in LA.

June's here again.
I can't believe another year has passed. Already this June seems like it needs to be over... I've squeezed too much into it already! Most people do resolutions in January, but I've got to throw that out the window, I'm doing resolutions in June!
1) Get organized in life, work, and hobbies.
2) Spend more quality time with my kiddos
3) Complete things I finish
4) Loose weight
5) Blog more, both here for personal stuff, professional stuff at thegarlandgroup.net, and the stuff that falls between on a seprate blogger page.
Think I can keep up? Check back and see for yourself!
